John May papers : land indentures, 1814-1817.

This collection consists of two land indentures dated Nov. 8, 1814, and Feb. 27, 1817, respectively. Both of these land transactions were between John L. May, his sister and her husband Polly and Daniel Epes, and William Taylor as the second party. May and Polly Epes inherited land from their father after his passing in 1800. All of the land was located in Shelby County, Kentucky.

Taylor, William Berry, 1768-1836

William Berry Taylor was a lawyer and land speculator who migrated from Botetourt County, Virginia, to Shelby County, Kentucky, in the late eighteenth century. After migrating, Taylor continued to practice law in Virginia as well as Kentucky. Taylor was part of the influential Taylor family that included Colonel Richard Taylor, the James Taylor's, and Zachary Taylor.
